Worship Services
Sunday morning services at OBC are designed for worship. Our intent is to draw near to Him. We do this as a caring community of friends and family who choose to set aside Sunday morning as a time to gather together to read God’s word, sing hymns both new and old, receive teaching, and share together in prayer. We know that the words of James 4:8 are true:
Come close to God, and God will come close to you.
Sunday School
Our Sunday School meets Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m. with classes for all ages, Pre-K -- Adult.
Bible Studies
Pastor's:
Our Sunday Evening Bible Study is an informal, verse-by-verse, discussion-based study of a Bible book. We also have a time of prayer for our church, our fellow church members, and for persons in need who are known to us. Currently, we are studying the Gospel of John.
Men's:
The Odessa Baptist Church has a men’s Bible Study that has met weekly since its inception in 1996. It began as a study to prepare a group of men from the church to attend a Promise Keepers event in Syracuse NY in 1996. Since that time, this study has continued to meet regularly, though the day of the week and time of day has changed from time to time. The study is a verse by verse study that seeks to understand the text in its historical context, with a lot of discussion focused on contemporary application of the text. Our desire is to be not just hearers of the word, but doers of the word (James 1:22) as well.
Our study is currently in the book of II Corinthians. Much of this book speaks directly to our culture today and the contemporary Church within that culture. We meet on Saturdays at 6:30 AM, with the study beginning at 7:00. We finish at 8:00 and pray together. While that time does require a certain level of commitment, it is a time that no one had any other scheduling conflicts (except for sleep). It is understood that guys will show up looking like it is 6:30 on a Saturday morning as well. We meet at 102 Maple Ave in Odessa. Please come and join us. We’d love to hear what you can add to our study of God’s Word.
Women's:
Ladies Bible Study meets Wednesdays at 9:00 a.m. at the Spencer home. All ladies have input into what we choose to study. We have done a study on End Times using two David Jeremiah video series. We have also studied the book of Daniel and the topic of spiritual gifts. In addition to our study, we have different ministries that we do together such as visitation, sending small encouragement packages to our college kids, and anything else that God puts on our hearts.We also have a time of sharing needs of the church and local communities before joining in prayer. We encourage all ladies to come, bring a friend, and join in the fellowship of this group. We are hoping to outgrow the Spencer home in the near future!
Praise Team
The OBC Praise Team is a small group ministry that desires to worship and serve through contemporary Christian music. Vocal harmonies with keyboard, guitar, bass, and drums are the tools we use to honor God’s great work in our world and in our lives.
American Heritage Girls
American Heritage Girls is a faith-based character development program for girls five through 18 years of age. AHG is dedicated to the mission of building women of integrity through service to God, family, community and country. AHG Troop 412 is based in Odessa and is chartered by the Odessa Baptist Church. This troop is starting its 7th year this fall. This fall we have approximately 13 girls in the troop and they range from age 8 through 14. The troop teaches the girls practical skills and knowledge while having fun. We use field trips and hands on projects to keep thelearning fun. We also are very dedicated to serving the community. Last year our troop served a total of over 400 hours of service.
